Passion Led Us Here

Message from The President of Fragility Fracture Network Malaysia

As the President of the Fragility Fracture Network Malaysia (FFNM), I am honored to welcome all of you to join us in this national movement dedicated to improving the care and outcomes of individuals affected by fragility fractures.

The Challenge We Face

Fragility fractures, particularly hip and vertebral fractures, are critical events in the lives of older persons, often leading to loss of mobility, independence, and a significant decline in quality of life. By 2050, the incidence of hip fractures alone is projected to increase by more than 3.5 times compared to today. With an aging population, our healthcare system is already under significant strain, and the economic burden of fragility fractures will continue to escalate.

The Power of Collaboration

FFNM is founded on a multidisciplinary team comprising clinicians from various specialties and allied health professionals. At FFNM, we recognize that addressing this crisis requires a collective effort, as no single discipline or institution can do it alone. The collaboration between multidisciplinary teams and policymakers has been instrumental in moving beyond fragmented care toward an integrated model that prioritizes:

  • Early surgery and optimized acute care to reduce complications

  • Comprehensive rehabilitation to restore function and independence

  • Fracture liaison services to prevent refractures

In the strive of clinical excellence, we are grateful for the contributions of our members, whose dedication and expertise have shaped national initiatives. Their involvement in the development of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Geriatric Hip Fracture, launched in 2024, is a testament to their commitment. A few of our members have also played a key role as policymakers in drafting the Geriatric Fracture Liaison Service policy, set to be launched in 2025.

In addition, the government’s recognition of fragility fractures as a major public health concern has led to investments in evidence-based strategies to enhance fracture care, including post-fracture osteoporosis management and falls prevention programs in both hospitals and primary care settings.

Our Shared Commitment

By embracing early multidisciplinary intervention, coordinated care pathways, and secondary fracture prevention, we have the power to change the future for those affected by fragility fractures. Let us reaffirm our commitment to making fragility fractures a national priority—so that together, we can create a lasting and meaningful impact.

Thank you.

Our Mission
